2. A brief detailing description of the organizational function in which they worked, in terms of the contents of the activities attributed to the function itself and the related reporting lines (for example, if to the Board of Directors or to other company functions):
I worked at Amazon as a financial analyst within Operational finance, I worked in the ATS finance team which is responsible for Long term planning and investment decisions relating to the network planning activities. They support FP&A and also provide insights on how changes to the logistics network will impact the quarterly budget predictions. In addition to working with the long term planning team, I supported the adjacent short term planning team with communicating the results of the weekly business review that is done to summarise the impact of changes in the network.
The reporting tasks I was responsible for included a weekly email and excel commentary on findings relating to different kpis which was communicated to regular managers, senior managers and other individuals at the director level at Amazon. The information helped them track budget movements on a monthly and yearly basis and compare movements of actual monthly results to planned targets.
The script I created was able to get the information on a yearly and monthly basis from a different set of files and input them into a summary table. Which gave a quick and rough estimate of network costs. The information it obtained was the thickness and distance of several origin and destination lanes, it then broke them down into different countries.
The team is part of World Wide Amazon Stores -> Operations -> Transportation -> Amazon Transportation Services (ATS). They support the ATS network planning business partners on designing the best transportation network to delight Amazons customers, and the team specifically looks after strategic network decisions (2+ years).
